An important native title right and interest claimed by Goldfields people is the protection of their cultural heritage. Heritage protection is undertaken in the GLSC by its Research and Heritage Unit.

Heritage protection on behalf of native title claimants is addressed in the following ways:

• Responding to claimant complaints concerning site violations by investigating and negotiating with relevant developers or authorities.
• Conducting and supervising heritage site surveys under agreements entered into with mining and other developers.
• Promote heritage knowledge by maintaining a record of Aboriginal site surveys.
